3. Call Your Elected Officials and Ask Them to Pass the SCAR Act

Hello, my name is ________________
and I am a constituent in ____(name of representative)__ district. I’m calling because I am deeply troubled by the separation of immigrant children from their parents, and the lack of oversight and accountability of the facilities here in New York state that are contracted to receive these children.

There is a bill sponsored by Senator Brian A. Benjamin and Assemblyman Harvey Epstein called the SCAR Act. It stands for Separation of Children Accountability Reporting Act. I’m calling to ask ___(name of representative)___ to sign on and support this bill. Do you know if the representative is supporting the bill?

If yes: Thank you. I’m very grateful that our elected leaders are standing up to these inhumane policies. I appreciate the representative’s advocacy on this issue.

If support is unknown or no: These policies are inhumane and doing real long-term damage to these families and our country. Please ask the representative to support this important legislation.

(At the end of the call thank them for their time and hang up. If you wish, you may also leave your contact information and request a follow-up from the representative’s office.)

***IMPORTANT***

The SCAR Act is about accountability. Let’s hold our elected officials accountable. Ask your friends and neighbors to do the same.
This will take lots of community support.
Please click here and tell us if they said they will support the SCAR Act or not.
