Keeping families together and advocating against deportations

November: NSC Success Stories

{Names are changed to protect our Friends.}

  • Our friend George has been in detention for 9 months without representation. He had a private attorney from a different state prior to his detention which barred him initially from being eligible for free representation by the New York Immigration Family Unity Project (NYIFUP). As the months of incarceration went along, the accompaniment team volunteers noticed George's mental health began to deteriorate. Thanks to the strong advocacy of these volunteers, Bronx Defenders (who are a part of the NYIFUP project) have officially agreed to take on his case!

  • José and Winnie were facing a pro se individual hearing in front of a notoriously difficult judge...

Their clinic team prepared an incredible packet of supporting evidence, affidavits and country conditions as well as a request for a postponement, and the accompaniment team filled the courtroom to the brim. The judge granted our Friends four extra months to continue seeking an attorney, and NSC continues to work with these Friends to support them in advocating powerfully for themselves.

We are so grateful to the CBST (Congregation Beit Simchat Torah) community!

CBST has been running a campaign to raise money for the New Sanctuary Coalition L.I.F.E. Bond fund. Last night they gave us a check for $21,000 to help free our friends from detention.

This is what solidarity and allyship looks like!

Every dollar makes a difference! You can donate to the L.I.F.E. Bond Fund here.
