In response to urgent and emerging needs in communities outside of New York City, New Sanctuary Coalition is working with groups of dedicated individuals in areas nationwide to provide crucial services including pro se immigration clinics, accompaniments, rapid response, and more.
NSC Central New Jersey Solidaridad supports Friends in the community threatened by ICE, including families with children and unaccompanied minors enrolled in public schools.
Accompaniment: We accompany our neighbors to ICE check-ins in Mt. Laurel and Newark, ISAP appointments in Marlton, biometric appointments in Elizabeth, immigration court hearings in Newark, and family court in Trenton. We also accompany neighbors in spaces where citizen privilege can be helpful such as banks and schools. We provide transportation and offer a supportive presence, witness the interaction, and serve as a communication link with family.
Pro Se Immigration Clinic: We operate as a satellite of NSC’s New York City clinic. We help neighbors prepare to defend themselves in deportation proceedings, helping them fill out asylum applications and other forms. We also refer neighbors to other available legal services whenever possible.
Rapid response: We maintain an alert system and provide rapid response to ICE raids in our community.
A NOTE ABOUT OUR COVID-19 EMERGENCY RESPONSE: Many of our neighbors work in restaurants and other service jobs that are now gone. They have urgent needs for food and basic necessities. Many live in insecure and unstable housing and are at risk of eviction. To help our families through this crisis, we are connecting them to local emergency assistance.
